The Tennessee Department of Health’s HIV Prevention Services is funded primarily through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  Additional support for HIV testing is provided through state funding.  The CDC grant supports a range of activities that include:  HIV counseling, testing and referral (CTR), HIV partner counseling and referral services (PS), HIV health education and risk reduction programs (HERR), HIV prevention for positive individuals (HIV-IP), public information programs (PIP), a toll-free HIV/STD hotline, capacity building programs, and a quality assurance and evaluation component.

Each year, HIV Prevention Services provides funding to more than 15 community-based organizations and to all 6 metro health departments to support grass-roots prevention and conventional and rapid HIV testing programs.  All funded programs support priorities outlined in the Tennessee Comprehensive HIV Prevention Plan.
