Communicable and Environmental Disease Services Programs
Programs in Communicable and Environmental Disease Services include:
- Appropriate Antibiotic Use which has the mission of reducing antibiotic use and the spread of antibiotic resistant bacteria that causes upper respiratory infections through state and local partnerships.
- Appropriate Antibiotic Use in Animals (TTAR) which has the mission of promoting judicious use of antimicrobials (antibiotics and related medicinal drugs) in animals and preventing the spread of antimicrobial resistant bacteria.
- Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response which provides information about biological agents, training, and other important information dealing with the public health aspects of bioterrorism preparedness and response.
- Chemical Terrorism which deals with public health preparedness and response for chemical incidents and chemical terrorism.
- EHS-Net is a network of environmental health specialists and epidemiologists collaborating and exchanging ideas with laboratories, state food protection programs, the Environmental Health Branch of the National Center of Environmental Health at CDC, the Food and Drug Administration, and FoodNet.
- Emergency Preparedness has the mission of preparing for, responding to and recovering from health emergencies affecting the State of Tennessee.
- Emerging Infections Program which is a population-based network including the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Department of Preventive Medicine, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and nine other state health departments working with academic centers, local health departments, infection control practitioners, and other federal agencies to assess the impact of emerging infections and evaluate methods for their control.
- Environmental Epidemiology which is responsible for public health activities that pertain to exposure to chemicals or radionuclides.
- Immunizations which promotes immunizations to protect both children and adults from preventable diseases
- Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) Infections, reports on reccomendations of the Tennessee Department of Health Infections Taskforce
- Pandemic Flu
- Sexually Transmitted Diseases
- Smallpox
- Surveillance and Epidemiology which collects data on communicable diseases in order to monitor their incidence and identify clusters of cases that could be related
- Tuberculosis which identifies persons who have active TB and insures completion of therapy, as well as identifying, examining and treating close contacts and testing high-risk populations
- Viral Hepatitis which provides information related to Adult Viral Hepatitis
- West Nile Virus which deals with the surveillance and control of the disease.
